Reviews
Hi guys, Peng here. This is the section where I review some pretty amazing games on DSi and others. Let’s start from scratch:
Scribblenauts (DS, DS Lite, DSi)
This is my first review of “SCRIBBLENAUTS”. First, let’s go over this game itself.
The Game
“Scribblenauts” is a game developed by 5th Cell and I guess supported by WB (the people who make the Bugs Bunny movies, lol). It came out in the middle of 2009, and right away it was popular.
In this, you play as a rooster hat wearing boy named Maxwell. With enough “ollars” (the currency of the game) you can as be other avatars, like ninja, zombie or even a bride.
“Scribblenauts” allows you to do pretty much whatever you like. It has 10 levels: The Gardens, Metro, The Peaks, Ancient, Shoreline, Outer Wild, Stunt Park, Frontier, Dark Hollow and finally, Mish Mash. Every level goes from easy to hardest. Also “Tutorial” is Level 0. That beginning gives a tutorial that states that vulgar language, Greek, Latin or foreign phrases, copyrighted material and more is not allowed, but this doesn’t kill the game itself, as there are millions of choices.
After completing training, you have become a Scribblenaut. Now you have to go around solving mysteries.
Let’s say a man is in the desert very thirsty. Type in SODA and he can get a soda. Type in DRINK and he will get a drink. Type in MILK and will he get milk? Lemme see…MILK works.
Overall, there over 200 levels to do freely and over prob 5 ways a level to solve them.
Sadly, let’s go over to the downsides of Scribblenauts:
-Camera controls and moving controls are very frustrating at times. Maxwell is moved with the stylus (pencil) and the camera is moved with the arrow keys. After about 10 seconds of looking at something, the camera moves back to Maxwell.
-When you type something in, you can also WRITE the letters. This is dumb at times, because I guess a sensor tracks how a certain form is made and makes a computed guess. These letters don’t work when capitalized: K and N. If you don’t put the 2 lines on the top and bottom of the I then it becomes an L.
-When you attack something, it doesn’t give you enough time to fight back sometimes. If you shoot a bird, it will attack and you will lose after 4 pecks. This is frustrating when you get to the bigtime levels.
-Level Editor is a tool that lets you create your own custom level. Sounds fun, right? It is, but when you play the level, everything is easy to move, and everything falls. So, if you put a baby in the sky, it would probably be in the sky in normal play, but on Level Editor it will fall. I don’t know why a baby WOULD be in the sky though…
-Finally, tracks don’t actually work, I bought Track 4 and it uses the same “KEEP THE BEAT” song it always uses.
I think that’s it for the bad side!
Overall, I rate “Scribblenauts”…4.5/5
The people who made this OBVIOUSLY spent a lot of time on it, so kudos! I think this is a game you could play, get addicted and get frustrated at Level 3 or 4. The good thing is, YOU CAN BUY LEVELS. So, if you have 20,000 ollars, and you are on Level 2, you could buy another Level like Level 7 or 8.
Thanks 5 Cell and WB for this amazing game, and I will continue to play it.
-Jack
